The Lake Superior School District is currently seeking funding to purchase Automatic External Defibrillators (AED’s) for all of our schools in Two Harbors and Silver Bay.  AED’s are saving countless lives across the country as they are becoming more prevalent in public places.  According to the American Heart Association, 460,000 people suffer sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) each year.  Only about 5% of these people survive.  Defibrillation is a process which restores the victim’s heart to a normal rhythm.  For every minute that defibrillation is delayed, the victim’s chance of survival goes down 10%.  SCA affects victims of all ages.  The Center for Disease Control estimates that annually 7,000 people between the ages of 15 and 34 die from SCA each year.
