SCHOOL BOARD GOALS ~ 2009-2010

Transportation

The School Board will ensure that the District transportation program is operated economically, efficiently and effectively. This will be accomplished by:  1) maintaining buses to assure safe operating conditions, 2) securing new vehicles as needed and recommended, 3) and moving toward improving the storage and maintenance facilities of the fleet.

Facilities

The School Board will act in partnership with the Superintendent, principals and custodial staff to maintain, update and operate all District facilities. The work will be carried out through an approved five-year plan that identifies prioritized needs of each facility so they are clean, safe, efficient and aesthetically pleasing areas for community and student use.

Finance

The School Board will be accountable for assuring sound financial practices in all financial dealings of the District so that: 1) a reasonable fund balance is maintained,  2) financial resources are available for identified needs, and 3) the appropriation of revenue will be sought to allow continual improvements of District operations as needed.

Personnel

The School Board will ensure that the District continues to build a healthy and positive environment for all employees, students and community members.  The District will continue to examine work expectations and functions in order to hire high-quality employees and assure the efficient and effective performance of all personnel.

Curriculum and Instruction

The School Board will work through the Superintendent with The District’s educational staff to examine and improve the curriculum and instructional strategies implemented in all District educational programs.  This will be achieved by professional development and curriculum improvement programs offered through the District.

The School Board will pursue all feasible avenues to meet the District’s educational mission to prepare students to the fullest extent possible from early childhood on for success after graduation. The Board will direct the District’s educational leadership to work with staff to review pertinent data, and to identify and implement the best practices of instruction at all grade levels.

The Board will work to ensure the success of the ongoing effort by the administration to review and adjust class offerings and schedule arrangements to provide our students a depth and diversity of relevant and rigorous coursework and programs of study in the middle and high schools of the District.

The School Board will investigate new avenues and partnerships that can:  1) develop pre-K through grade 12 alternative learning programs, and 2) establish post-secondary learning options within the boundaries of the District.

Community Relations

The School Board is committed to improving the District’s involvement in the community by opening the doors to the buildings for community events, offering programs through Community Education and other partnering agencies, and being participants in community organizations and events.
